- Neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, tan, brown) — avoid bright colors, white, and black, which can attract insects or stand out to wildlife
- Long-sleeved shirts and long pants for sun and insect protection, especially at dawn and dusk
- A warm layer or light jacket — mornings and evenings, especially in the Ngorongoro Crater highlands, can be surprisingly cold
- A wide-brimmed hat for sun protection
- Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes
- Swimwear if your itinerary includes a lodge with a pool or a Zanzibar beach extension
- A light rain jacket if traveling during the wet season (November–May)
